Dr. Lichtenstein

And for some serious (and terribly boring) info:

Dr. Ron Lichtenstein was born on July 9th, 1958. After finishing his undergraduate studies and receiving a B.S. degree in biology, he started graduate school at UCLA.  His graduate work involved herpetology and mathematical ecology under the guidance of one of the world leading herpetologist, Professor Laurie J. Vitt.

After getting his Masters and a C.Phil. degrees, Dr. Lichtenstein started working as a biology professor at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. At the same time he started attending the University of Southern California medical school, keeping his faculty appointment at Cal Arts.

He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from USC, and moved to New York, completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the New York Medical College, at the Bronx campus – Our Lady of Mercy. His residency program was unique in its location, providing exposure to a large volume of extremely high risk obstetrics, and unparalleled surgical experience in gynecology.

As a chief resident, Dr. Lichtenstein also had the opportunity to act as an expert witness in issues of sexual assault on behalf of the state of New York, his testimony being instrumental in removing dangerous sexual predators from the streets of New York (i.e: removing a few worms from the big apple..). At the same time he also worked on changing the and re-defining the nature of the interactions between his department an the department of emergency medicine, assuring a less traumatic experience for women who presented to the emergency room with reproductive health emergencies.

Having finished his residency, Dr. Lichtenstein moved to Fresno, joining a group called "Sequoia Community Health Foundation". During his two years there, Dr. Lichtenstein held a faculty appointment at the University of California, San Francisco, teaching obstetrics and gynecology to family practice residents.

After finishing his contract with the Sequoia group, Dr. Lichtenstein realized that he could provide better care to his patients by limiting their exposure to specialists in the field of ob-gyn. He left Sequoia (and that was way before they were investigated on felony charges!), which was a group of mainly family practitioners, and joined Omni Women's Health Inc., a group comprised of specialists only.  Later he joined the Depatment of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he is now a Professor.

Dr. Lichtenstein takes care of low and high risk obstetrical patients, and of a large population gynecology patients. With his team of talented and caring nurse practitioner, he provides all forms of contraception, often at no cost.   Dr. Lichtenstein is the only Ob-Gyn in Fresno who is currently offering the CHDP  program.  Under this program eligible children and youth receive periodic preventive health assessments. Children and youth (currently limited to age 11 and up in this office) with suspected problems are then referred for diagnosis and treatment. Many health problems can be prevented or corrected, or the severity reduced, by early detection and prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Although Dr. Lichtenstein is a staff member in several hospitals in the Fresno area, including St. Agnes, Clovis Community Hospital, Sierra King Hospital and University Medical Center, he usually limits his practice to Fresno Regional Medical Center.

As a physician, Dr. Lichtenstein firmly believes that a patient should be in full control of her medical care. While a doctor can offer educated advise, the patient has the moral, ethical and legal right to fully determine the direction of her medical care. He is the medical director of Omni Women's Health Inc., a member of the medical advisory committee of the Diabetic Care Center, and a member of the ethics committee at Community Hospitals of Central California.
